OOU, NDU, DELSU pull out of ASUU Strike, Announce Resumption Dates

ASUU StrikeMore Universities have toed the path of some others who have already shunned the ongoing industrial action by Academic Staff Union of Universities.
Information reaching Us shows that the management of Niger Delta University, Amassoma Bayelsa state has directed all academic staff to resume today.
The Delta State University has also announced December 8th as resumption date. below is the full Delsu Modified 2012/2013 Second Semester Academic Calendar;
Sunday, December 8, 2013 – All Students return to campus
Monday, December 9, 2013 – Lectures begin
Tuesday, December 24, 2013 – Christmas break
Sunday, January 5, 2014 – Students to return on Monday, January 6, 2014
Monday, January 20, 2014 – Screening of fresh students begin
Friday, January 31, 2014 – Lectures end for stale students
Monday, February 3, 2014 – 2nd semester examinations begin
Friday, February 21, 2014 – Examinations end
Saturday, February 22 – Saturday, March 8, 2014 – Vacation
Monday, March 3, 2014 – Fresh students resume/start registration
Monday, March 10 – Friday, March 14, 2014 – Orientation of fresh students
Sunday, March 9, 2014 – Stale students return to campus
Also, an unconfirmed report has it that the Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State has announced that it will abide by the Federal Government Instruction that all striking lecturers of public universities in the country should return to the classrooms on or before 9/12/13.

More than 75 international students will go home for Thanksgiving this year  — go home, that is, with UCLA alumni who have invited them to join their families for the holiday on Thursday.

In a new program led by UCLA Alumni Affairs in  partnership with the Dashew Center for International Students and Scholars, students from China, India, Australia, South Africa and elsewhere around the globe have eagerly signed on for a taste of the American tradition at the homes of 35 local alumni.


ASUU Strike; Striking Lecturers Want Four Month Salary

The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU, has said that the 4month old strike would only be called off if the federal government pays them their four month salary arrears since the inception of the strike as well as the full implementation of the N1.2trillion federal govt proposed funding for public universities with the immediate release of N100billion this year. The remaining N1.1trillion would be spread for 5 years.

They made this resolution after their Friday November 23rd National Executive Council meeting held in Kano state. A meeting between them and President Jonathan is been called for by the association before they can call off the strike.
