British Council introduces more Schools in Nigeria to International Learning

A total of 200 additional Nigerian schools joined the British Council schools network in October and attended a face to face training introducing them to international learning and how they can get involved.
According to Mr Obasan Adedoyin, Principal, Ayangburen Senior High School Ikorodu,
“When I received notification of the workshop, my initial thoughts were:
  • My school was going to get computers as I had associated the British Council with digital.
  • Someone from my school would get the opportunity to travel to the UK.
I was delighted to discover the Connecting Classrooms programme entails so much more. Following this workshop, I understand the value of international school partnerships and that it goes far beyond exchange visits. There is so much to learn as a whole school and we have things to teach or showcase to schools outside our country. I also realized that although getting computers from the Council may widen access, I do not need to wait for that to happen as I can get my school involved in international learning through my mobile device. I plan to take the first step by registering my school on Schools Online and to get some teachers from my school to take some of the online PD courses.”
Mr Amodu Excellence Olugbemiga from Government Senior Model College Ikorodu also had this to say …
“Some schools within my education district had received visits from a UK school and I have seen the impact of the partnership in their school and on their teachers. I always wondered how they had got involved and whether selection was political. Attending this workshop has helped me understand that every school has the same opportunity to get involved and the level of impact on each school will depend on each schools commitment. I understand it will be hard work to introduce international learning in my school and to get involved in a partnership but I am prepared for it is worth the impact it can bring to the school as a whole especially with my teachers and students who will be exposed and be able to develop global skills and outlooks’’
